MANILA, Philippines — The British Council, in partnership with Starbucks, is launching the third I Am A Changemaker competition which awards seed money to the best social enterprise idea. Open to youth organizations, with members between the ages of 16 to 28 years old, the competition provides the opportunity for young people to implement their ideas through a P100,000 grant to four youth groups from Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and NCR.

There will also be a special prize of P100,000 called the Starbucks Shared Planet Award for finalist group that exemplifies Starbucks’ commitment to being a responsible company. President George W. Bush is one of the controversial president of USA. During his term,  the tragic and unforgettable 9/11 attack took place that eventually led to invading Iraq.  After serving his term, he spent time writing this book. This book focuses on the important decisions he had ever made during his presidency. Whether you are pro or anti, this one is a good read.

THE AYALA MUSEUM VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

The Ayala Museum, one of the leading private museums in the country, is always on the lookout for dedicated individuals who have an enthusiasm for history and art and who would like to share their passion with other people. Volunteers can contribute to the Museum in different ways such as: providing customer service, giving facilitated tours, assisting in art workshops, supporting in administrative tasks, and more. In turn, they will be able to have the rare opportunity to experience and learn what goes on behind-the-scenes in the museum’s numerous programs and events.

TASKS OF A VOUNTEER:

1. VISITOR SERVICES

• To ensure that all visitors will have a wonderful and rich experience when they visit, the museum offers customer care at the information desk. Visitor services include greeting and welcoming guests at the counter, selling tickets, and providing basic information about the museum and the exhibits.

1. EVENTS

• The museum is a busy hub for different kinds of event from corporate events to exhibit openings. To help create a genial atmosphere, volunteers are tasked to assist the staff in greeting guests at the registration desk and to usher them to their proper seats. Please take note that museum events usually happens in the evening.

1. SCHOOL TOURS

• The museum receives large groups of students from different school all over the Philippines. For them to have a smooth and worry-free tour of the museum, volunteers are tasked to assist the Audience Development Department in facilitating tours for these school groups. Responsibilities include giving introductions about the museum, stating the policies that should be followed inside the museum, and explaining the exhibits on each floor. Therefore, volunteers are required to have a basic knowledge of Philippine history and art.

1. ART WORKSHOPS

• The museum workshops are a great opportunity for young and old alike to hone their skills and interests in the arts. Volunteers are expected to assist the staff in preparing materials for the different art workshops to make sure that each class would have everything they need. They are also required to help facilitate the workshops and to provide information about it when necessary.

REQUIREMENTS FOR VOLUNTEERS

• Volunteers are required to complete a minimum of ten (10) hours volunteer service to officially become part of the volunteer program.
• A total of one hundred (100) hours is needed to avail of the free one-year museum membership and certificate of volunteership.
• Must be under 25 years old by the time of application.
• Must have an engaging personality and excellent communications skills. Knowledge on Museology, interest in teaching, and public service experience are helpful, but not a pre-requisite.
• Volunteers may also be asked to participate in different training programs provided by the museum.

HOW TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER

• Volunteer positions are open to college students and young professionals who are passionate about Philippine history and art.
• Prospective volunteers are required to submit an application form (downloadable via the Ayala Museum website), a letter of intention and a resume. All three forms are required and incomplete application forms will not be acknowledge. Applications must be submitted via email to:

Kuwentong Kabayanihan is a competition geared towards promoting patriotic citizenship among Filipinos. With the theme “Every Filipino is a hero. Every Filipino is part of the solution,” the contest emphasizes the CSC’s R.A.C.E. to serve—towards a Responsive, Accessible, Courteous and Effective Public Service, and Kabayanihan Foundation’s concept of being a ‘kabayani’ by showing love for country in doing small, consistent acts of heroism.

General Rules:

• The contest is open to amateur groups and individual filmmakers.
• There is no limit as to the number of entries per individual/group.
• No fee is required to join.

Theme:

• The theme for the videos is: “Every Filipino is a hero. Every Filipino is part of the solution.”
• Videos that will move ordinary Filipinos to act on the most pressing concerns in their immediate fields/circles/areas of influence.
• Videos that will stir every Filipino to do something concrete for the country.

Specifications:

• The video should be strictly 30-40 seconds long.
• The video entry must be the contestant’s original material.
• There is no limit as to the style of the video.
• It may be an animation, documentary or commercial video, among others.
• A submission is acceptable as long as it is clear, intelligible, and not offensive to common law decency.
• Entries may be submitted in English or Filipino.
• Entries that use other Filipino dialects must be subtitled in either English or Tagalog.
• Accepted video formats are .avi, .mpeg, .mp4, or any type that is compatible for upload in YouTube and Facebook.

Contest Duration:

• Entries must be submitted between: May 18 – October 15, 2011.

Prizes:

• Cash prizes and fun prizes will be given to the Champion, 1st Runner-up, 2nd Runner-up, as well as to special awards winners: CSC Awards and People’s Choice Award.
