My patriotic friend,
The best judges of the people, for the people, and by the people are the people themselves.
The Power to Judge originates from the people.
If the people themselves use exclusively the power to judge that belongs to them to begin with, no government men can judge upon the people, no official can decide the people’s fate, no warlord can step on the people’s feet, no politician can ever dare to rob the people’s vote, no president can be a dictator.
So why not we the people TAKE BACK the Power to Judge to ensure against abuses and abscesses of the officials we place in positions?
Look at the countries where the power to judge is vested in the people? These are the countries that embrace the Jury System of Justice. There, the judges are ordinary laymen sitting as jurors to decide the fate of the accused as to the issues of facts. There, the judges in one case are at least twelve chosen from whoever are the most unbiased among those raffled off from the community and kept secret in case the stakes are high. There the ombudsmen and fiscals are the people who decide who to hail to court: that in the USA these people compelled President Richard M. Nixon to resign and President Bill Clinton to submit to impeachment trial.
In countries where the power to judge is exercised by the people in a mechanism called the “Jury System,” there has been no coup d’etat, no changing of governments that happen too often.
But we the people must act to take that power back. We must amend the Constitution to make it happen.
For this reason, this is a call addressed to all Filipinos to act on.
If nobody acts, who will?
Come. Let us lay the first brick of the PEOPLE’S JUSTICE SYSTEM. Attend the First Jury Convention on April 28, 2011, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the UP-NCPAG, UP Campus, Diliman, Quezon City. THIS IS OPEN AND FREE FOR THE PUBLIC.
